Sustainability Solutions to Share with Linchpins # 19

I’m sharing some “million dollar” creative sustainability ideas and you can have them for free.  Be a Linchpin and develop something: ship, ship, ship!

Scraping the Sky ~ Wasting the Simplest Resources?

Cities are filled with towers that rival the sky.  One can scarcely see the tops of them unless viewed from afar.  With all that vertical reach, it seems a huge waste of energy to plumb them with sinks and bathrooms on every floor and then discharge that effluent to free-fall down into the city sewer.

Where’s the Linchpin opportunity?

What if every floor discharged liquid wastes into a stream that captured the kinetic energy (provide free by gravity) by water wheels inside the drainage lines.  Sinks on each floor could be diverted to flush toilets on floors below, and yes: the sky’s the limit, because the roof itself could provide natural water from rain and dew if designed properly.  (Green roof systems even reduce the energy consumption of a structure and lower external ambient temperatures for neighboring buildings.)

Implementing something like this requires a great deal of planning, and we need some Linchpins to design reliable plans for revolutionary ecosystems that integrate rather than resist nature.

Simple.  Beautiful.  Elegant.  Vertical.  Sustainable!
